Mandurah’s cultural heartbeat and our very way of life are drawn from the spectacular surroundings of the Peel Inlet and Harvey Estuary, known locally as ‘the estuary’, and the Indian Ocean beaches. The colour, light, space, sounds, and intricate details of these remarkable settings inspire local and visiting artists.
Visual Arts
From the vast blue expanse of the estuary and the intricate details of its foreshore, Mandurah’s distinctive landscapes and ocean views have been the inspiration behind many creations of local art. A stroll through the art galleries at the Mandurah Ocean Marina and the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre is a great way to spend a morning or an afternoon and local galleries can be found along the foreshore for visitors to enjoy.
The Mandurah Art Gallery always has a busy exhibition calendar of touring and local artists, however, art doesn’t always have to hang in frames in this great City, it is on our sidewalks and light posts, displayed openly on our grassy foreshore and is proudly presented as part of our way of life at the annual Stretch Festival in May.
Culture
Mandurah’s rich and diverse culture is based on its environment, heritage and climate. Summer is an exciting time for the City as the event season kicks off and thousands of locals and visitors are enticed to the outdoor performances, festivals, carnivals and community events held along the foreshore and beaches.
And in honour of Mandurah’s ancient culture, the Mandurah Community Museum exhibits distinctive displays of traditional Aboriginal artwork from the Binjareb Bilyidar tribe as a very special way in which the City remembers its past.
